Thunderstorms, are a delvelop of cloud build-up. These storms can contain lightning (which is first) then thunder, also rain with it, comming down to the clouds.

Lightning is one of natures dangers, it can strike anywhere. This also goes with severe storms, which can cause frequent lightning. It can also contact with metal. Lightning can strike, water (on ocean, or lakes) empty fields, high towers, also trees. It can also strike 15 miles or a bit more from a thunderstorm.

Types of Lightning (Forms)Edit

There are 4 types of lightning strikes:

  • Cloud to Ground (CG), which happens most.
  • Intracloud
  • Cloud to Cloud (CC)
  • Cloud to Air (CA)


Thunder comes after the lightning, because its a speed of sound, because light is faster than sound.

Severe StormsEdit

Sometimes thunderstorms can get severe, by warm air coming in, the hazards of severe storms are: hail, high winds, and frequent lightning, and heavy rain, which can cause flooding.


Tornadoes can also be in a severe thunderstorms, but they can be dangerous, and some of them can form big or small, depending of the intensity of the storm.

This is measured in enhanced fujita (EF) scale, this means its how powerful the tornado is.

  • EF0: Light Damage, Winds: 65 - 85MPH
  • EF1: Moderate Damage, Winds: 86 - 110MPH
  • EF2: Considerable Damage, Winds: 111 - 135MPH
  • EF3: Severe Damage, Winds: 136 - 165MPH
  • EF4: Devastating Damage, Winds: 166 - 200MPH
  • EF5: Incredible Damage, Winds: 200+ MPH
